Hunt Africa Safaris was founded in Canada in 2002 by Coenie Fourie, a seasoned African game hunter with more than 20 years of experience hunting in Southern Africa. Coenie was born in Windhoek, Namibia and spent his early childhood in Tsumeb in northern Namibia where his love for hunting and the outdoors started. He completed his secondary and post-secondary education in South Africa and holds a degree in Engineering and an Honours degree in Transportation Engineering.
Hunting and fishing have always been an integral part of Coenie’s lifestyle and he started guiding mainly European hunters in Southern Africa in 1992. Coenie and his family relocated to Grandview, Manitoba, Canada in 2002 and it is here that Coenie started Hunt Africa, focusing on Canadian and American clients.
In 2006, Hunt Africa Safaris was joined by John Hipwell, a British born Canadian whose enthusiasm for firearms is only surpassed by his intense passion for hunting in Africa. John spent his early childhood days hunting everything possible in the UK and when he and his family immigrated to Canada in 1982, he continued his passion for hunting and the outdoors by bagging countless Whitetails, Moose and Elk in the frigid winters of Manitoba. Like many who read this story, John always dreamt of hunting in Africa but generally believed it to be unaffordable and so it remained only a dream. But when John and Coenie’s paths crossed, he soon learnt that he could realize his dream, which he soon did in fine style by bagging several outstanding animals on his first African hunting safari.
John immediately fell in love with southern Africa and has become an avid study of its history and fauna and flora and even owns an extensive collection of historic ethnic southern African weaponry. Furthermore, John has a vast knowledge of firearms backed by his more than 20 years of experience as a firearms dealer and his company is one of Canada’s industry leaders in the supply of firearms and optics. John also has an intimate knowledge of and experience in the use of large caliber double rifles, which is indispensable when hunting dangerous game. John brings with him a reputation for honesty backed by a high level of service and support and is an indispensable member of the Hunt Africa Safari’s team.
